BIOFIBRE Artificial Hair Transplantation Using the EXODERM Method
The Advanced Solution for Hair Loss Problems
Hair loss and treatment for thinning hair are medical-aesthetic fields that affect the quality of life and self-confidence of many people. Research shows that at younger ages, the natural hair quantity ranges between approximately 100,000 to 130,000 hairs in people with particularly hairy genetics. However, when dealing with genetic baldness or hair thinning, traditional treatment options pose significant challenges. In this article, we will review the disadvantages of traditional transplantation methods and the prominent advantages of artificial hair transplantation as an advanced and effective solution.
Limitations of Natural Hair Transplantation Using STRIP – FUE Methods
Despite the significant improvement in the FUE method for hair transplantation, in which we were, by the way, among the first in the world to perform and develop, the method poses inherent limitations:
- Quantity limitation: For quality transplantation, it is not possible to extract more than a few thousand quality grafts.
- Limited source of grafts: When quality is maintained, it requires using only a quality donor area (without using hair from the sides or places not intended for this, such as beard, chest hair, etc.), the average number of grafts is around 2,000 grafts only.
- Partial acceptance rates: At best, only about 70% of the transplanted hairs are actually accepted and continue to grow.
- Significant density gap: Any natural transplant is actually just an imitation, as the achieved density is significantly lower than the original natural density.
- Loss of the donor area “bank”: The donor area is very limited and may be more important for the future, with continued recession and hair thinning as well as continued balding with age.
The Advanced Solution: Synthetic Artificial Hair Transplantation
Synthetic artificial hair transplantation represents a technological breakthrough offering significant advantages:
- Perfect resemblance to natural hair: The synthetic hair looks and feels completely like natural hair.
- Precise color matching: Exact matching to all natural hair shades.
- Unlimited quantity: There is no limit to the amount of hair that can be transplanted.
- Immediate results: Results are visible immediately after treatment (one day or two days depending on the required amount).
- Possibility for future densification: Hair can be added at any time in the future for additional densification without risk.
- Preservation of “hair bank”: Ideal also for young people who may continue to bald in the future – preserving the donor hair area if needed. Ideal for hair densification after failed and/or unsatisfactory transplants in terms of hair quantity and density.
- Quick return to routine: Patients return to normal activity within one to two days.
- Minimal side effects: Almost no side effects compared to other methods.
- Suitable for women and men: The length and type of hair can be adjusted as needed.
- Rich variety: Straight, wavy, curly or kinky hair for men and women in all colors.
Considerations in Treatment and Maintenance
Despite the many advantages, it’s important to understand the maintenance needs of artificial hair:
- Hygiene: The hair should be shampooed daily or every other day at the latest with antiseptic shampoo before regular shampoo.
- Coloring: The transplanted hair cannot be colored, but the natural hair can be colored separately.
- Fixed length: The hair does not grow after the initial styling at the chosen length.
- Annual maintenance: Once a year or two, there is a need to fill about 10% of the quantity that was transplanted due to natural shedding.
- Lifespan: With proper maintenance, the hair remains forever. Without periodic filling, the hair will last about 5-7 years with careful hygiene to prevent inflammation.
Significant Differences Between Clinics and Institutes for Hair Transplantation
In the hair transplant market in general, and especially synthetic, there are substantial differences between service providers:
Lack of Experience and Insufficient Training in Most Clinics
- Doctors without dedicated specialization: Most doctors and clinics that have gained experience with regular transplants only, offer only natural hair transplants. Synthetic is perceived by them as “competition.”
- Attempts without background: Only a few in the world have recently begun to try synthetic transplants, and unfortunately, most of them without any previous experience in the field.
- Inexperienced institutes: Institutes and doctors without previous experience in hair transplants in general and synthetic transplants in particular have recently emerged and offer synthetic hair with advertisements that do not reflect their actual experience or lack thereof in the field.
Superficial Training by Hair Manufacturing Companies
- Superficial “training”: Only two companies manufacture synthetic hair, and as manufacturers only without their own clinics, they do not have enough practical medical and clinical experience like our clinics that have been focusing on this for many years.
- Minimal seminars and courses: The companies rely on sales of seminars and individual conferences that sometimes include few transplants, mostly on a silicone dummy head only.
- Courses of one or two days: Sometimes the “course” may include a doctor or technician from the company who demonstrates on a patient, and participating doctors try to transplant a few dozen or a few hundred individual hairs for demonstration only.
- Certificates without real training: After a “course” or seminar, and especially if doctors are tempted and continue to purchase a device or hair, they receive a “certificate” that supposedly attests to their training in hair transplantation from the manufacturing company, which is later presented as a “diploma” and may create the impression of an expert in hair transplantation.
- Purchase without training: A large portion of doctors, if not the majority, actually do not specialize in the field at all and do not undergo real training, did not work in a transplant institute before, but simply buy the product and start transplants as income supplementation or as an addition to their work as an innovation to make extra profit, and come out with advertisements that do not reflect their level of knowledge or previous experience in the field.
Why Choose EXODERM?
Exoderm is a leading medical center in the field of hair transplants for nearly 40 years.
Several significant advantages:
- Proven experience: The oldest medical center with experience of nearly 40 years in regular FUE and synthetic hair transplants. The first and exclusive center that introduced synthetic hair to Israel and many countries in Europe.
- Skilled team: With many years of experience, most of them permanent and with close to 20 years of practical expertise.
- Strict and comprehensive training: New doctors and technicians undergo close to a full year of study and joint work with close supervision of those with 10+ years of experience – before they can perform an independent transplant, in complete contrast to the “one-day courses” of manufacturing companies.
- Advanced technique: Unlike other clinics, the transplantation is not vertical (90 degrees) but adapted to the natural hair growth directions in each area, using only a manual syringe and not an automatic one to get sensitivity to the depth and correct transplantation angles according to the skin thickness which varies from person to person and also differs between areas. This is in contrast to the device pushed on new doctors for a high cost, which looks advanced to the patient and doctor but transplants slowly and only at straight angles and preset depths without any control by the implanter. This creates a problematic “grass head” and contradicts all the correct rules of hair transplantation.
- Brief explanation: This device is similar to the manual syringe head with a needle that leads the hair into the skin, except that the only difference is that the handle and head are heavy and clumsy, connected to an air tube that when stepping on a foot pedal the needle is pressed with the help of released air pressure and actually just replaces the index finger that is supposed to press, which even manually requires almost no special effort. This is what they call an “automatic device for hair transplantation” – it looks like an allegedly innovative product with an illuminated panel, but in our opinion, its only advantage for doctors is marketing and creating a seemingly professional impression.
- Exceptional efficiency: We transplant about 1,000 hairs in just one hour (compared to 1,000-2,000 hairs throughout the day in other places). Transplants at our clinic continue on subsequent days and consecutively if more than 6,000 hairs per day are needed. The patient is not required to return after months for completions like in most clinics in the world – a procedure that stems from an old and unnecessary protocol, mainly from lack of confidence and sufficient experience of manufacturers and doctors under the guise of a “test” supposedly required for the patient. We specialize in mega-transplants and the desired final results are obtained immediately and are preferable to non-continuous completions in hair design.
- Thorough examinations: If a patient passes the strict medical examinations that we perform, unlike other doctors who do not require them at all in advance, then the supposed “test” is unnecessary and the suitability for transplantation is certain in 99 percent. It should be noted that according to our method, no initial test in a limited area will reflect or teach us anything about whether in the future there may be inflammation or rejection of any of the implants, and vice versa, because the matter depends anyway 99 percent on how the hair is kept and especially if keeping the instructions after the transplant by the patient – assuming his partner does not pull them out in an argument. If he does follow the instructions, then the risk of rejection in advance is perhaps 1-2 percent. It should be noted that even after more than 20 years of transplants in this specific type of hair production and in very large quantities, we still have not encountered immediate hair rejection after transplantation – hence more the initial need for a prior test, since as mentioned no result either way will lead to a conclusion regarding the cause, since the minimal risk exists in advance and even after 5 years may occur regardless of the amount of hair that was transplanted if it was transplanted professionally.
- Serious difference between experienced and unprofessional transplantation: Most inflammations or graft rejections may occur if at a depth not visible to the eye, the internal connection of the hair adheres to another transplanted hair – i.e., 2 hairs in one hole or that meet due to transplant angles opposing each other. Therefore, this is one of the reasons among others that we insist on long and precise training with examination of each and every graft, which is not preserved in most places according to patients who come to us with problems or failed results after transplants from other places and ask to fix them with us.
- Cost savings: Choosing a clinic without experience may cause double or more expenses that will require removal of the implants and re-transplantation to prevent inflammations or their spread to extensive areas.
- Real advice: These tips are not in the form of business advertisements to attract patients specifically to our center (although we would of course be happy) but mainly as a recommendation that it is worthwhile first to thoroughly check where to do the transplant and in what type of hair and methods, and if the clinic has any previous extensive professional experience. Given the high prices of the transplants, many patients check and ask first about the lower prices and do not bother to check what the reason for the low price is, which may also be accompanied by insufficient experience or if it is a new doctor who is just starting and trying to acquire a clientele with a competitive price.
- Superior quality: Use of single hairs only without “triple hair” with obvious disadvantages.
- Comprehensive examinations: Complete series of blood tests and diagnosis of medical history before deciding on suitability for treatment.
- Personal adaptation: Consideration of lifestyle, hobbies, types of sports, and nature of work to ensure optimal results, and extensive specific instructions according to the patient’s lifestyle.
Exclusive Innovations in Transplantation Technique
Exoderm’s years of experience have led to the development of unique transplantation methods:
- Angle adaptation: The transplantation is done in adaptation to the directions of natural hair growth in each area. Maintaining spacing and on the other hand reaching maximum transplant density in relation to a given area and also 2 or 3 times in relation to any other known transplant, regular or synthetic, and also in relation to any other clinic as far as we have learned to date.
- Hair for combing: The transplanted hair can be combed and sits exactly like the natural hair in perfect adaptation.
- Natural look: The unnatural result of “grass head” common in inexperienced clinics is avoided.
- Single hair technique: Use of a single hair only, without the problematic connections of “triple hair.”
Why Would We Recommend Avoiding the Use of “Triple Hair”?
“Triple hair” seemingly offers the advantage of 3 hairs in one graft, good for marketing to those who don’t understand and also to doctors and patients, but harbors significant disadvantages and side effects:
- External connection: The simple knot that connects the hairs is located above the scalp, visible to the eye, and creates unaesthetic points.
- Difficulty in combing: Gets stuck when combing like any foreign body and creates pulling of the graft and gradually will also remove it from the body over time.
- Increased risk of infections: Provides an opening for the accumulation of infections and inflammations as it stores more dirt, fungi, and bacteria.
- Accelerated shedding: The rate of loss of this type of hair may be three times faster than regular hair.
Summary
From decades of experience in the field of hair transplants, we conclude that for most patients, synthetic hair transplantation under the right conditions and choosing the right patient constitutes for a high percentage of those in need of hair a significantly preferable solution in the long term over natural hair transplantation. The prominent advantages are the ability to achieve high density, absence of surgery and scars, immediate results, no limitation on the amount of hair. Combined with the unique expertise and extensive experience of the Exoderm Medical Center team, natural and aesthetic results are obtained that restore self-confidence and quality of life to patients.
